Soldier Of Fortune This is a quality First-Person-Shooter, one of the best. It follows in the likes of Doom and Quake, which means you can be very 'Trigger-Happy' as you need to kill nearly anything that moves. Soldier Of Fortune is renowned as a very gory game. This it may be, but this all can be toned down by the parental controls option (the padlock icon from the main menu). Although in game the gore isn't really all that bad unless you are sensitive to it. One of the points of it being and 18's game, is that if you shot someone in the arm, that arm is likely to fall off, and likewise with legs, and if you shot someone with a shotgun they're likely to be blown to bits (not as bad as it sounds). O.K. there bodies do get dismembered, and blood falls to the ground, but this is a game not a film, it isn't like normal people are going to go out and try it out in real life. In the game you play John part of the ARC (Armed Response Conduit). You and your partners, Hawk and Sam are required to get back 5 nuclear bombs which were stolen. You start off fighting a small gang war then move onto the nukes. You really get sucked into the game, which is very addictive. On the easiest level I completed it in a week, but you really need to try the harder levels. There is a very good ending to the, which you shall just have to play it to find out what happens. There is a demo of the game available from: ftp://ftp.gameplay.com/pub/downloads/fps/sof/sof_demo_usv.exe (95mb) Price: £20 (average)
