Time Crisis

Time Crisis is the only real shooting game, for PlayStation. There is House Of The Dead from Sega but it isn't available on PlayStation. This was one of the first games I bought for my PlayStation. If you have a PlayStation this is a brilliant game. 

There may not be much depth in the game, but it is very very good. You do need a light-gun to play it properly, but they aren't too dear to purchase. The game on the PlayStation is every bit as good as the arcade version, you will be coming back for more (although it doesn't cost as much). I still play this game, it's that good.

There are two choices of play, Arcade and Story. In arcade it is just the straight forward arcade Time Crisis, Story mode, you can go up in difficulty or down, the end-bosses are harder as you go up.
